Hagnaya Beach Resort Review
Living in Cebu means you’re never far away from the beach.
As locals who probably scoured all the resorts in nearby Mactan island, it’s not surprising for some of us to explore other municipalities once in a while in search for a different scenery. And Hagnaya Beach Resort (resort info) in San Remigio is the latest addition on our list.
If you’re planning to go on a road trip up north and decide to spend the night there before heading back to the city, then this review just might be the one you’re looking for.
Getting There
What made it convenient for us was that we were able to hire a van to the resort. Totaling 109 kilometers, our travel time took less than four hours. However, you could also head over to Cebu North Bus Terminal and ride a bus that leads to Hagnaya Port and pay a fare of at least three dollars per person. From there, you could ride a local tricycle to the hotel. However, if you were able to book a room ahead of time, you could request for the hotel to pick you up at Hagnaya Port free of charge.
First Impressions
The resort really had a wide garden property with more or less fifty guest rooms and a private beach. If you’re looking for a white-sand beach like that in Boracay however, you’ll be disappointed here.
Rooms
We chose the air-conditioned family room that had two queen sized beds as it can accommodate up to six persons by adding two extra futons on the floor and paid a total of PHP4,600 excluding breakfast. That would be PHP766 per person which by out of town standards was a bit expensive. Well, at least the room looked clean and decent plus we had cable television, a hot and cold shower, free WIFI and an outdoor veranda.
Food
Since we arrived at about lunch time, the first thing we did before unpacking our things was to bring out the lechon (whole roasted pig) we’ve been sniffing in the van all the way from Cebu. Good thing there was no corkage fee and decided to eat it cowboy-style with puso (hanging rice) on our veranda.
For our next two meals however, we had no choice but to eat at the resort’s Josephia Restaurant since other options were at the town proper. A typical meal for two would cost you around ten dollars.
Thankfully, the kitchen staff agreed to cook our leftover pig (lechon paksiw-style for dinner and deep-fried pritchon for breakfast) with only a minimal cooking fee. We also ordered deep-fried Camaron Rebosado at PHP250 and the favorite Cebuano noodle dish Bam-i at PHP165 to clear our conscience.
Other dishes served in the restaurant that we were able to try were Pochero at PHP285, Lechon Kawali at PHP185, Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet at PHP250. They also serve appetizers, salads, pizza, pasta, soups, sandwiches and burgers if you’ve had enough of Filipino cuisine.
Things To Do
What’s surprisingly rare to do here is that you could actually watch both the sunset and the sunrise because of the resort’s location. How amazing is that? In fact, I almost died while watching the sunrise that I wrote about it over at King of Sinulog.
Unlike Westerners who love to get a tan, we Filipinos prefer to be under the shade from 9AM to 3PM. As expected, we were in the gazebo playing billiards and table tennis, singing our hearts out in karaoke, eating halo-halo at the restaurant or probably in the rooms getting a massage while watching TV.
When the sun’s rays were a bit kinder, that’s the time we played a game of basketball with other guests, do a bit of swimming in the private beach, take some selfies at the boardwalk or play some fun games in their swimming pool.
If you feel adventurous, go out of the resort and explore everything San Remigio’s got to offer.
