For an island that is overflowing with inspiration, it is by the nature of Boracay Island to enhance the creativity of its talented artists.
One of the island’s artists was Ancho, who with his wife had cleverly conceived a house built with bottles, plastic containers and other scrap materials to enhance a quaint dwelling into a lustrous living space that they have aptly called Bahay Ni Ancho.
Location
Quietly nestled within the lush residential area on a hill in Din-iwid, Bahay Ni Ancho sprouts as a perfect house for guests looking for a semi-native house where they can cook their own food and live comfortably a few meters away from the beach.
Rooms
Bahay Ni Ancho is designed with a quaint loft that spells utter tranquility amidst the raw sounds of nature. It is set with a cozy mattress that has a lovely enclosure of a mosquito net where through it shines a small view of its tropical surrounding. Still as the fresh breeze comes in, an electric fan adds a whip of air to the comfort of its dwellers.
Amenities
As a house artistically made to satisfy the aesthetical view, as well as the basic needs of its guests, Bahay Ni Ancho has every mindful convenience of a private house. It has a fully-equipped kitchen where cooking, brewing coffee and washing dishes are given an open scene of the lovely garden outside.
For dining and relaxation, there is the nice wooden table with benches, and a pebbled nook with beanbags and a hammock so that browsing on the computer with the house’s high-speed wifi or watching the cable TV on the wall while munching fruits from the basket on the table is made into a distinctive yet pleasurable island-style ritual.
This pebbled area also makes up for hanging clothes to dry or simply to keep them creaseless on the hangers.
Adjacent to the dining and the kitchen is a pleasantly crafted bathroom with hot and cold shower, a toilet bowl with a bidet, a one-of-a-kind sink that is installed with an old rice cooker, and adornments of Ancho’s painting of a man brushing his teeth and a wood-framed mirror touched with precious stones and beads.
The house also has a safety deposit box and a mini library with prized literary books.
Food
While the tropical fruit basket on the table and assorted beverages in the fridge are given as complimentary offerings to guests, food to consume during main meals are either self-cooked or delivered to the doorstep from the central commercial district of the island, called D’Mall.
A reliable food delivery service is by Smoke Resto (+63 36 2886014 or 2884565), which for a minimum fee can deliver freshly cooked traditional Filipino dishes within a good 45 minutes.
Overall Review
Bahay Ni Ancho is optimal for backpackers, couples and solo travelers who want to immerse in the distinct island life of Boracay and be able to walk to a laid-back beach cove for a refreshing swim in the crystalline sea amid the magnificent sunset in the horizon.
